Our Program Approach - Australia
The Santos Foundation works to help communities thrive wherever Santos Ltd operates. Building on its long-standing impact in Papua New Guinea, the Foundation has expanded its activities to include regions across Australia.
In Australia, our programs focus on supporting education and employment pathways for young people, with a strong emphasis on community-led impact. One of our key initiatives is the Aboriginal Health Practitioner training program in the Northern Territory, delivered in partnership with Danila Dilba Health Services (DDHS).
Program Spotlight
Aboriginal Health Practitioner Training
First Nations communities in the Northern Territory continue to face significant health disparities, compounded by social disadvantage and limited access to culturally appropriate care. The number of Aboriginal Health Practitioners (AHPs) in the region has declined over the past decade, creating a critical gap in the local health workforce. To help address this, the Santos Foundation’s Youth Opportunities program supports aspiring AHPs through a two-year Certificate IV accreditation program at the Batchelor Institute. Graduates are offered permanent roles with DDHS, contributing to a stronger, culturally competent health workforce in the Yilli Rreung (Greater Darwin) region.
The initiative includes:
- Student Induction: Site visits to DDHS clinical locations and program overviews including chronic disease management, maternal health, and child health.
- Dedicated Support: A Student Support Coordinator provides academic and emotional support, liaises with stakeholders, and monitors program success.
- Clinical Rotations: A structured rotation schedule ensures exposure to diverse patient cases and community health needs.
- Mentorship: Smaller clinics offer personalised learning and one-on-one mentoring opportunities.
This program not only strengthens the local health workforce but also creates meaningful career pathways and role models for future generations.

Apprenticeship Pathways
Through its partnership with GTNT Group, the Santos Foundation is supporting apprenticeships that create accessible employment pathways and build a skilled local workforce. The program provides tailored support for apprentices across multiple industries, helping participants gain nationally recognised qualifications while building confidence, capability and long‑term career prospects.
In late 2025, the program was expanded to include both school‑based and non‑school‑based apprentices, responding to industry needs and removing barriers for people seeking to enter or re‑enter the workforce. By combining practical training with wrap‑around support, the initiative strengthens workforce participation and supports individuals to transition into sustainable employment within their communities.
Participants undertake apprenticeships across a range of sectors, including:
- Carpentry
- Engineering
- Business
- Hospitality
