The Santos Foundation and the Gulf Provincial Health Authority (PHA) have renewed their partnership to strengthen healthcare delivery in the province, with a signing ceremony in Port Moresby on Thursday, 26th September, marking a significant step towards improved health outcomes.
The partnership aligns the efforts of the Santos Foundation and the Gulf PHA to address key health challenges, especially as the Gulf PHA welcomes a new board led by Managing Director of Mineral Resources Development Company (MRDC), Mr Augustine Mano.
On behalf of the Gulf Provincial Health Authority, Acting Chief Executive Officer Maluo Magaru in signing the MoU emphasised the importance of the partnership, stating, “This partnership with the Santos Foundation is a testament to our joint dedication to uplifting the health standards in Gulf Province. With the new board, we aim to deliver more efficient and responsive healthcare services, and the support from the Santos Foundation is pivotal to achieving our goals for communities in the province.”
The renewed agreement ensures that the Santos Foundation’s support is aligned with the Gulf Province’s health priorities, focusing on programs that directly address local needs. The Foundation has been actively involved in infrastructure projects and the Accelerated Immunisation and Health Systems Strengthening Programme (AIHSS), aimed at improving healthcare accessibility and quality.
Looking ahead to 2025, the Santos Foundation plans to support the implementation of a comprehensive Tuberculosis (TB) programme in collaboration with the Gulf PHA and other partners. This program aims to tackle the rising TB cases in the province, offering improved prevention, diagnosis, and treatment options.
Head of Santos Foundation PNG Jean Martin, in highlighting the significance of the partnership said, “Our collaboration with the Gulf PHA reflects a strong and shared vision for a healthier Gulf Province. With the rising incidence of TB, our focus on a comprehensive TB programme is crucial,” Ms Martin added. “We are confident that with the continued collaboration with the Gulf PHA and our partners, we can make a real difference in the fight against TB and in strengthening the overall health system in the Gulf Province as we have demonstrated in partnership with the PHAs in Hela and Southern Highlands Provinces.”
The renewed partnership between the Santos Foundation and the Gulf Provincial Health Authority underscores a long-term commitment to enhancing healthcare services and fostering a healthier future for the Gulf Province, while also extending support to the Provincial Health Authorities of Hela and Southern Highlands Province.
